In the before-times (aka pre-pandemic), three seasoned creators, Ash Brannon, Chris Cartagena, and Sarah Cole developed a little show called Stoner Cats. Based on Sarah’s personal experience with her mother, Stoner Cats is a story of a woman who uses medical marijuana to alleviate her early Alzheimer’s symptoms and her beautiful family of cats who will do literally anything to save her.
Working with Mila Kunis and her Orchard Farm Productions, and a formidable collective of voice talent, animators, and technologists, they brought this story to life using NFTs when traditional studios wouldn’t.
10,420 unique NFTs were created based on the characters in the show. These NFTs were minted and sold on July 27, 2021. NFT holders were given direct access to the creative team, getting a full look behind the curtain of a television production in a way that has never been done before. It included numerous community members making a permanent creative stamp with ideas, voice overs, credits, and animation being included within the show.
6 episodes of Stoner Cats were released, only available to token holders.
Stoner Cats is a universal story of love, hardship, community, caring for one another, and getting just a little bit high. But the distribution and the way it came to life is just as important. The show represents an important cultural movement in entertainment away from gatekeeping executives and streaming platforms, and towards entertainment freedom where consumers can influence the type of content that is made and how they can access it.
Stoner Cats was made with and for the community, and is being preserved in its purist form.
All 6 episodes are hosted on a decentralized server via IPFS, meaning the content cannot be censored or taken down. The Stoner Cats content will live on the blockchain and be accessible for NFT holders for many generations to come, and no one can take this away (not even us).
